Some of the words I hear repetitively from the youngsters:
“I hate my job but need the money.”
“I have a decent job, but I’m not growing.”
“I want to switch careers but I’m scared.”
“I don’t know what I want to do with my life.”
If you too are in any of the above mentioned scenarios, read on. I might have a few words of advice for you.
Well, a job is a specific role or employment you do to earn money while, a career is a long-term professional journey based on your passions, skills, and values. A job will have a short term goal like making some money or fulfilling some immediate need however, your career has a long term perspective like - growth, fulfillment and purpose.
I would like you to start with discovering your “Why” for your current employment. What energizes you? What would you do even if no one paid you? If you're employed in your current job just because you need to pay your bills (which is important too!) without doing justice to your skillset, you need to rethink your job choices.

Next step is to ask yourself this question - Where do you see yourself in 5, 10, 15 years — and why? The question looks vague but so is the answer. Nobody is asking you to answer this question with a specific title, salary or team size perspective. However, I'd say you see your future self as a successful person and imagine what success look like to you - beyond salary or title.
It is a broad horizon and your career might change direction/s in these years but still, I suggest you to have an ambitious answer to this question.
Based on your answer of the above question, identify what transferable skills you have and where you lack in skills. This is where you need to bridge the gap by building an action plan for yourself. This action plan can take you from just paying the bills to a career that builds your identity and joy.
